Sir George Cox

George became Chairman of the Design Council in 2004, having been Director General of the Institute of Directors. He spent most of his business career in IT, becoming UK Chairman of Unisys and heading its European service-based businesses.

In 2005 George was the author of The Cox Review of Creativity in Business for Her Majesty's Treasury.

George is also:

  • Senior independent director of Bradford and Bingley
  • Chair of Merlin
  • Director of Shorts Brothers Ltd (the world’s oldest aircraft manufacturer)

Sir George Cox chairs the Design Council's Remuneration Committee. This committee reviews general terms and conditions of employment and specific salary matters in relation to the Design Council Chief Executive, Directors and any staff with a salary in excess of £70,000.
