The Design Council is challenging visitors to Tomorrow’s World Live to design an innovative new product fit for the new millennium.
With imagination the only limit, the five best ideas will each win a Psion Series 5, designated a Millennium Product by the Design Council. Entrants will be asked to answer key questions about design and innovation and then come up with their own Millennium idea.
The competition is part of the Millennium Products exhibition which will be featured at Tomorrow’s World Live at Earl’s Court, London, from Wednesday 30 June - Sunday 4 July.
The Design Council’s specially-commissioned display features flying objects, inflated video booths and interactive exhibits which will bring to life the initiative launched by Prime Minister Tony Blair to find innovative UK products and services.
Among the Millennium Products on display will be:
- the Europa XS, a light aircraft which can be packed into a trailer
- Skystreme, an airborne survival aid already credited with saving lives
- the Remarkable Recycled Pencil, made from a recycled vending cups
- Blatchford IP+, an ‘intelligent’ prosthetic limb containing a silicon chip
- Iris Recognition, which turns the eye into a unique security coding device
Andrew Summers, chief executive of the Design Council, said today: ‘Tomorrow’s World provides an excellent opportunity to bring Millennium Products to a wide British audience in a spectacular and highly effective way.
‘Through Millennium Products, we hope to fire the imagination of the many young people visiting the show and inspire a whole new generation of world class designers and innovators. I wish them all the best of luck in our competition.’
