Budget for new economy welcomed

But business must make more use of design to benefit, Design Council warns

Tuesday 21 March 2000

Design Council Chief Executive Andrew Summers, commenting on today’s Budget, said:

‘With today’s new measures to help e-commerce and further help announced for small businesses, the design industry and other key players in the new economy can only benefit.

‘But if businesses are to benefit to the full, then they must design their websites and the business processes behind them far better than they are at the moment. There is not enough design being used in the new economy yet.

‘The introduction of Regional Innovation Funds is an excellent move to bring good design and good ideas together and produce better products. Many companies of course are already doing this - like those we have recognised with Millennium Products status.’
