In the programme, Seymour Powell work closely to develop a new shopping trolley with leading supermarket chain Sainsburys and its supplier, Scottish manufacturer Buko. The designers also enlist the expertise of engineering consultancy Lotus Engineering which is part of Norfolk-based sports car manufacturer Group Lotus.
J Sainsbury plc is Britains longest-standing food retailing chain and the first UK supermarket company to open a bank. Established in 1869, Sainsburys plays a part in the lives of 15 million customers every week. The group incorporates Homebase, the DIY and gardening chain, and has also invested in Shaw Supermarkets in the USA and Edge, an Egyptian venture operating neighbourhood stores in Cairo.
Buko Ltd is a Fife-based manufacturer of retail self-service equipment, merchandise handling and display and storage equipment. It was founded in 1922 as a wire-working business and received its first order for six self-service shopping trolleys in 1956, from Fine Fare. Today its development activity utilises the latest technologies, it employs 400 staff and its products are available in more than 40 countries worldwide.
As part of successful sports and racing car manufacturer Group Lotus, Lotus Engineering works with many of the worlds major automotive companies. It offers a full engineering service from initial concept and project design through development to full production prototype build.
