Do you have a design library or resource centre?
Question 4 of 20
The Design Council Archive stored at the University of Brighton's Design History Research Centre documents the history of the Design Council from our foundation under the Board of Trade in 1944 as the Council of Industrial Design, through our reshaping as the Design Council in 1972 up until our re launch in 1994.
The Archive consists of over 100,000 photographs, internal and external publications, records of meetings of the Design Council and policy discussions, details of exhibitions, films, videos, posters and correspondence with government, industry and outside agencies. It is an invaluable record of the Design Council's achievements, an insight into the formulation of government policy and practice relating to the design of British goods, design education policy and the impact of design on everyday life since 1944. The archive was relocated from the Design Council to the Design History Research Centre at the University of Brighton in 1994.
