Design in Business Week 2000

Opening Event

Transforming Businesses

National Program

What do you think

Who would notice if your brand vanished? 27 October, six visions of three business years

Will your business be different tomorrow?

It was provocative, it was challenging and the combination of personal vision and debate that opened Design in Business Week 2000 was certainly inspiring.

In three quick-fire sessions run by the BBC’s Peter Snow, six original thinkers nailed their colours to the mast and set out where they stand on the future of the economy, brands and design – and how businesses can best face up to the challenges awaiting them.

The event, held at the Royal Opera House, was opened by Lord Sainsbury, who told an audience of business people: ‘Every business must reinvent itself. Products, retail formats and business processes which are successful today will be out of date tomorrow.’

On this site you can now get a taste of each speaker’s vision - and the questions they provoked - through a selection of video highlights. All the fast-flowing ideas from the opening event are being captured in a full report which will also cover the five Transforming Businesses events being held across the UK from 30 October to 3 November as part of Design in Business Week 2000. We’ll be publishing the report online as well as in print. And we’ll also be making a complete transcript of the opening event available. An archive of the online discussion is available.
