Faced with a deluge of undifferentiated information, people need creative skills both to assess it and to create the most effective ways of employing it in the real world. These skills are the survival kit of the new knowledge-based society - both for work and at home - but few people believe that the current education system provides them.

The Design Council, working closely with the Department for Education and Employment and the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority in particular, aims to ensure that design and creativity are key components of current and future learning. As part of this programme we have launched CreativeNet - an initiative aimed at identifying new examples of how creative skills are being developed, sharing innovative and best practice and examining implications for the education system. CreativeNet is a joint project between the Design Council and the think-tank Demos.
