In a global economy, all of our activities take place in an international context. The Design Councils international programme aims to show that the UK is a dynamic business partner in the global economy of the 21st century.
What images do you associate most strongly with the UK? Big Ben and the Queen? Historic castles and Shakespeare? Our traditions and rich heritage are well recognised around the world. However, research shows that in many countries contemporary images of the UK - linked, for example, to our vibrant youth culture and entrepreneurial spirit - are less well recognised. This affects whether people want to do business with us and was the starting point for the Design Councils award-winning Creative Britain campaign in 1997/98.
The Design Council wants to give people a better insight into life and business in the UK today, so we are promoting Britains strengths in design, innovation and creativity around the world. Working in partnership with organisations such as The British Council, the Foreign & Commonwealth Office and British Trade International, we are developing new policies and holding exhibitions and events around the world. |
